Topsfield Fire Department March Newsletter
TOPSFIELD — Interim Fire Chief Richard Harris is pleased to share the Topsfield Fire Department’s incident log for the month of March.
The Topsfield Fire Department responded to 222 incidents overall:
- Fire: 7
- Medical Emergencies: 64
- Hazardous Materials: 14
- Public Services: 31 (including Student Awareness of Fire Education – S.A.F.E. and free Child Passenger Seat Installations.)
- Inspections/Pre-Fire Plans: 91
- Good Intent Calls: 6
- Fire/Sprinkler Alarm calls: 6
- Mutual Aid: 3 (Twice to Boxford, once to Georgetown.)
Topsfield firefighters also gave away dozens of batteries to residents as part of the “Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries” campaign, encouraging residents to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with the start of daylight saving time.
Firefighters participated in the Topsfield Triad, Public Safety and School Safety meeting. Fire drills were conducted at all schools in Topsfield during the month of March. EMT’s in the department also completed their recertifications.
Open burning in the Commonwealth continues this month. Permits can be purchased at Topsfield Fire Department between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
The department helped a local youth complete community service hours by having him assist the department in sending the monthly Massachusetts Fire Incident Reporting System (MFIRS) report to the Commonwealth.
Firefighter Conor Brown, along with Officer Dan Bell of the Topsfield Police Departmentand Proctor Elementary School Principal Sarah O’Learycompleted two days of Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate (ALICE) training in a true team approach to school safety.
The department also worked with Crest Collaborative to renovate the department’s Watchroom after 30 years of continuous use.
