At 1306 on Saturday August Topsfield Fire Department was dispatched to the Town of Georgetown for coverage at their station during a reported house fire. Members of Topsfield Fire Department were already at the station putting together equipment after a trauma call involving a bicycle accident in which the victim had significant injuries. Engine 3 responded to Georgetown to cover their station with crews from Newburyport and Ipswich. Engine 3 staffed with Acting Chief Collins-Brown and Firefighters Charles Brown and David Ahern were then dispatched to the fire at 11 Juniper Lane in Georgetown. The crew provided vertical ventilation but cutting a hole in the roof for toxic gases and heat to be removed from the inside of the building. While Engine 3 was tied up providing aid in Georgetown, the call back staff handled another medical call in Topsfield. All of the small towns in this area are facing the same challenges, limited personnel resources are even further limited on weekends. Every larger scale incident involves a reliance on mutual aid. Our deepest condolences go out to the family who lost their home and their sweet black lab Bella. A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the Potter Family. We know that donations will help ease their burden.
