Last night, members of the Topsfield Fire Department, neighboring fire chiefs, members of the Topsfield Community, as well as the new Chief’s family gathered at the function room in the Commons to celebrate the official swearing in of Chief Jenifer Collins -Brown. As of today, she is officially the new permanent chief of the Topsfield Fire Department. This swearing in comes after weeks of contract negotiations while Chief Collins-Brown held the rank of acting chief, she takes the helm of the department after being a member for the last 31 years. Chief Collins-Brown is the first female to hold the position in Topsfield as well as Essex County and only the 4th in the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is also the first chief to hold a paramedic certification and Masters Degree. The evening was filled with well wishes and kind thoughts as well as motivating words from the new chief who even asked everyone in attendance to pause for a moment of silence for Officer Michelle Nowak of Boxford and Middleton Police Depts who passed away suddenly last Saturday. To that end, Chief Collins-Brown noted that she is excited to begin this new chapter and continue working with the phenomenal team that is the members of TFD and the surrounding public safety organizations to keep looking out for the welfare and safety of the public and each other.
