Topsfield firefighters were called to the town DPW garage at 279 Boston Street this afternoon around 3:45 after a radio call from the highway department reporting a truck fire in close proximity to the building. Engine 3 and Car 1 arrived minutes later to find the engine compartment and cab of the International Plow truck fully involved, in danger of extending to the building which was approximately 10 feet away. Lt. Tom Ash advanced a 1.75″ attack line while firefighter John Boyle manned the pump and Chief Collins-Brown checked on the status of the operator of the truck and ensured the building was not threatened. Engine 2 and Squad 1 arrived afterwards and Lt Brown, FF Horne, FF Fontaine, and FF Dalissandro assisted in overhaul and complete extinguishment of the fire. The fire was brought under control in minutes with no damage to the building or injuries to anyone involved. The cause of the fire is under investigation, preliminary evidence points toward some sort of mechanical issue, the estimated dollar loss has yet to be determined.
