From Captain Jen Collins-Brown:
A joint project between Topsfield Fire Department, Topsfield Triad Committee, Topsfield Council on Aging and the American Red Cross was completed last week. Members of the Topsfield Fire Department evaluated the homes of seniors who were identified through the Council on Aging as having potential needs in Fire Protection for their homes. These homes were built prior to 1975 and with no additions that would bring them into a different building code. These battery operated detectors were donated by the American Red Cross and were installed by members of the Topsfield Fire Department and Volunteers from the American Red Cross. Thirty one detectors were installed in 11 homes. Detectors that were out of date were replaced including a Wilkinson Household Fire Alarm which was over 40 years old. Certainly, these residents are safer in their homes due to the updated technology in these new detectors.
