For immediate release: Chief of the Department Jen Collins-Brown reports at approximately 3:30 PM today Thursday September 26, 2019 Northshore Regional Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a person run over by a tractor at the Fairview Satellite Parking Lot at approximately 111 Boston where workers not employed by the Topsfield Fair were cutting hay in preparation for the Topsfield Fair beginning next week. Topsfield A1 was clearing a different medical call and arrived in minutes with FFs Hallinan and Boyle, the incident commander. It was promptly determined by units on scene that the patient’s injuries were severe, initiating request by command for Boston MedFlight, who would meet the patient at the Beverly Hospital landing pad for air transport to Boston. In situations where a patient has serious injuries and no complicated extrication is necessary, the patient will be brought to a close hospital with a landing zone in case the patient is not stable enough to fly, they can be brought directly into the emergency room. Topsfield Ambulance 1 met up with a paramedic unit from Northeast Regional Ambulance for additional paramedics to stabilize the patient on the way to hospital. Fortunately, the patient was stable enough to fly upon arrival at the landing zone and MedFlight had landed minutes before. The patient was transported by air to Brigham & Women’s Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, with life threatening injuries. Chief Collins-Brown commends the rapid assessment and actions of the membership Topsfield’s public safety team on scene and the cooperation with other agencies which is critical in ensuring the patient receives the best medical care. The members of the Topsfield Fire Department wish the victim of the accident a speedy and full recovery.
