Chief of the Department Jenifer Collins-Brown is pleased to announce the Topsfield Fire Department as a recipient of this year’s Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG). The grant is administered through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and it’s purpose is to provide federal funds to assist state, local, territorial, and tribal government in preparing for all hazards. The EMPG supports a comprehensive all-hazard emergency preparedness system by building and sustaining the core capabilities contained in the goal. The grant was applied for and is administered by the agency’s Emergency Management Director, Chief Collins-Brown. The award amount for each agency is determined by the population of the community, Topsfield was awarded $2,700.00. The funds will be used to purchase cyber security for the Police and Fire Departments, as well as dash and helmet cameras to be used as documentation for training to improve responses and strategies and tactics for emergencies. Allowing firefighters to detach from the moment and get to replay an incident or training evolution after it has been carried out at real speed is an extremely valuable tool to aid in the quality of training of the department’s members.
