RE: Topsfield Memorial Day Tributes
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional Town of Topsfield Memorial Day remembrance at the veteran’s park will not take place this year. However, there will be two events occurring to honor our veterans.
On Monday May 25, there will be a Rolling Parade through Town to recognize and honor our veterans. The precession will include Veterans as well as, Police Units, Fire Apparatus, Topsfield Highway and Water Department vehicles, Topsfield Council of Aging, Topsfield Fair vehicles and family and friends. All residents along the parade route, or throughout townare encouraged to decorate their doors to honor our veterans.
Town Administrator Kevin Harutunian said, “We are grateful to help facilitate a creative way for our community to safely recognize those who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice and to support their families.” Town Administrator Harutunian continued, “The work by Chief Hovey, Chief Collins-Brown and Veteran Services Officer Dick Cullinan, working with members of our veteran community has been outstanding. This event should be a special way to rememberour veterans and would not have been possible without the efforts of many.”
The rolling parade will begin at the Topsfield Fair Grounds River Gate Entrance at 10:00AM. Information on the specific route can be found below.
The public is encouraged to come out to support and recognize our service members, but all social distancing guidelines must be followed.
• Residents are encouraged to watch from their property.
• Residents in public places, should social distance and wear a mask or face covering.
Chief Collins-Brown said, “In typical Topsfield fashion despite a worldwide pandemic residents care enough to stop and remember those who died in our defense”
