On the evening of September 9th 2020, the North Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center began receiving 911 calls reporting a person struck by a motor vehicle on Bare Hill Road near the Rail Trail crossing. Police units arrived in minutes, followed by Car 1 and Ambulance 1. Chief Collins-Brown and the duty crew of firefighters Godbout and M. Winfrey began treatment of a 16 year old male that was not responsive. Due to the time sensitive nature of serious trauma, C1 requested a unit from Boston MedFlight for an air transport to a trauma center in Boston. TPD’s officers also requested the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team to assist in the investigation. Topsfield’s Engine 2 and Squad 1 arrived with additional personnel and equipment and the patient was transported. Topsfield’s paramedics transported the patient to Beverly where MedFlight met them at the helipad next to Beverly Hospital. This decision was to give TFD medics the flexibility to decide whether to go to the ER in Beverly, a Level III trauma center, or go to the helipad so MedFlight could fly him to a Level I trauma center in Boston, based on the patient’s condition. Thankfully, the victim was stable enough to be loaded into the helicopter and make the ride to Boston with .
